Parent Story
Katie and Hope's Story
Wow! Where to begin? College has been a long and rewarding journey. My daughter, Hope, was born in 2002 and I began college in the fall of 2003 (first at Broome Community College then Binghamton University), basically for as long as she's been alive. I think it's ironic that I will be graduating in May and she will be starting kindergarten at Johnson City this fall. I couldn't have done it without help and support from Mom's House. It's almost impossible for a single parent to go to school, work and be a good parent. Mom's House allowed me to do all of these, above and beyond my expectations. College is demanding, the schedule ever changing. Regardless of my changing schedule, Mom's House provided my daughter and I with stability. My daughter looked forward to going to school everyday and literally never said she didn't want to go. She loves Mom's House, the staff and all of the friends she's made. She has grown incredibly since she's gone there. We both have. Many times, after a rough day or week of college, I would come to pick my daughter up feeling less than happy. Ms. Diane or Ms. Judy would be there to give me words of encouragement, uplifting my spirits before I left. Ms. Kelly, my daughter's teacher, has been wonderful. It is because of her love of sports that my daughter loves Bret Farve and Kevin Harvick, #29. It is also because of her that my home is filled with the most beautiful artwork. All of the teachers at Mom's House are amazing. They work wonders with the children, teaching them manners and allowing them to develop skills and personality through play and learning. They somehow manage to keep the children smiling and laughing with only the occasional upset child. I still don't know how they do it! My daughter and I are going to miss Mom's House tremendously. They've been a major part of our lives. I honestly couldn't have done it without them. I'm graduating from Binghamton University with my Bachelors in Nursing. I can hardly believe it. I'm so honored that Mom's House played a major role in my daughter's upbringing and my career. Thank you all so much. We will never forget what you've done for us and we will give back what we can. I am going to miss all of the other mothers, as we have become friends that share so much in common. I'll miss cleaning the kitchen, listening to the radio and enjoying great conversation. My daughter and I look forward to building our lives in this community, as we are originally from Athens, Pennsylvania. We love it here. We want to grow here. We've made so many friends in such a short time. In giving back to the community, I am proud to say I've been accepted at Wilson Hospital to work as a registered nurse on the pediatrics unit. I assure you all that I will be the best nurse possible, providing excellent care to your loved ones. Thank's Mom's House, we love you and we thank you.
