Katherine's Story
My name is Katherine, and I am a grateful client of Mom's House. I am a full time student at BCC, and a single mother of a beautiful little girl. Without the help of Mom's House, I would not have had the opportunity to live up to my potential and teach my daughter to do the same. The dedication, love and generosity that is provided every day at Mom's House is remarkable. The spirit that generates this wonderful place is truly a gift from above. What follows is a little story that I was inspired to write after my first year at Mom's House. This story is meant to show my appreciation for Mom's House as well as highlight the loving atmosphere that surrounds Mom's House and all who enter through their door. A long time ago, in the far reaches of heaven, there was a little star. Although this star shone brightly for all to see, he did not burn half as bright as he could, for, indeed, he was very sad. One day, God noticed this star and asked him, "My dear little friend, why are you sad?" The star sighed, and answered, "I am sad because I have so much love to give and no one to give it to. You see, all the angels who visit me here are so full of love, they don't need any of mine, so I can never give all this love inside of me. And that is why I am sad." Now God looked at this star for a while and thought about his predicament. Then God reached out his hand and said, "Come with me." With this, God took the star by the hand and led him down to earth. There, in a little town, while all were sleeping under a moonlit sky, God separated the soul of the star into little pieces that shone like diamonds, and placed them in the hears of a select few. "Now let's see what happens" God said as he returned to heaven. During the night, while these people lay sleeping, the soul of the star burned warmly in their hearts, opening something deep within them. In the morning when they awoke, they felt something in them had changed. After a while, each person who had the soul of the star within them, came together with an idea. They decided thay would bring to the world kindness and care for children, encouragement and hope for those who are trying, a second chance for those who need it most, and love to all who would come to them. To do this, they created a little place called MOM'S HOUSE. Here, love was given in abundance every day to all who walked through their doors. After a few years, God came to check on His friend, and smiled at what he saw. For indeed, he had found The Happiest Little Star in the Universe. What is it that makes Mom's House so special? Often people notice first that Mom's House simply offers a practical solution to a difficult problem, free day care for single parents attending school. But it is the underlying factors, the reasons that often go unnoticed that make the biggest difference. The staff at Mom's House are entirely devoted to what they are doing. Not a day goes by when they do not offer an encouraging work, a helping hand, and a supportive smile. The confidence that blossoms on the faces of the clients and children as a result of this support is nothing short of a miracle.
