Jennifer and Nicholas's Story

WOW! I can't believe I've finally finished BCC!

I think back to when I found out I was pregnant and I knew I had to go to school so I could someday provide for my child what was provided for me. It was then that I decided to call Mom's House. I had volunteered there one summer when I was eleven years old and have recieved newsletters since. When I came to Mom's House to meet with Judy, I wasn't quite sure if I was ready to go to school and leave my child with people I didn't quite know. On my first day of classes I dropped Nicholas off and cried all the way to school. I still didn't know if it was because I was starting school, or because Nicholas didn't care that I left him. Nicholas was only eleven months old when I started and he didn't even crawl.

Nicholas is now three and a half years old, going on ten. He has learned so much form the staff, volunteers, and the other clients and their children in the program. He has been one step ahead of the game thanks to the hard work and loving care of his teachers here at Mom's House. From the Lamb room to the Penguin room everyone has been more than wonderful.

Over the past three years, I have grown a lot from the experiences I've had at Mom's House. When I found out I was pregnant I didn't know anyone who was my age and in the situation I found myself in overnight. There were many times during the past three years that I have come to Mom's House and needed just to talk to someone for support. They've always been there for me to talk to, even when it was difficult to talk to my parents about things that were going on in my life. For that I will always be grateful.

The workshops that were held once a month were both fun and educational. I learned everything from food safety to cake decorating.

The volunteering that is required here at Mom's House is a small price to pay for all the benefits that my son and I recieved.

I don't know what I would have done if not for Mom's House, and hopefully someday I will be able to repay them for everything they've helped me with. They are truly blessings from God.
